Help My engine does not engage.

I have a 1998 225 ox hp salt water series. When I attempt to put the throttle in gear nothing happens. No alarms come on and the water pump is working, The rpms register increasing rpms but the gears do not engage. There is no griding sound and the propeller does not turn. Any suggestions greatly appreciated

I had a similar situation- the shift rod had corroded and broken. On a 150 Yamaha, it required removing the power head to repalce the rod - $1,500.

$1500 sounds a bit steep for a powerhead pull....bout 5 hrs diy. gear engage...unhook cable at motor and try to engage manually when running, if so then check cable to shift, then shift box. your NEWER motor has a stainless shaft and will not rust out.
