Nipple fittings

I have a 99 t9.9elhx. pulled the power head yesterday and am cleaning the water jackets.18 years in salt water, lots of build-up but motor still runs like a watch.my question is what is the procedure for removing and installing the brass nipple fittings on side of head? Thank you for any thoughts or suggestions

They are a push fit, no thread. Fragile so difficult to remove without breaking them, main risk is them snapping off leaving a core in the head. Suggest pour boiling water over everything and then squirt plumbers freeze over just the nipple and wiggle back and fore with a mole grip.
If they look ok and you can clean the crud out (pipe cleaner useful here) then I would not try to remove them at all.

grab them with vice grips and twist back and forth.
Yamaha sells them if you break it.
no need to remove the head,'

Thanks guys.i haven't twisted the wrenches in forty years. Retired now, and having fun with this amazing little motor.ill give it a try this afternoon.

Warmed up the head next to the wood stove, then chilled the nipples with ice. Fittings came out with medium force using vice grips.thank you for the suggestions.

We call them nipple rings here in the states. Fittings must be a Brit term.
