Ever used the gun in the navy to throw a line from one ship to the other? If so, what is it like?

    not yet.
the one on the USS Arleigh Burke was a standard M14 using a line charge.
    aim for the **** hat.
if no **** hat is visible aim for anything that moves .
I did pick up a real nice 1940 Tula built SVT-40.

actually UNreps are cool. hard work but impressive. we can take on stores and 40,000 gallons or so of fuel and break away and it all takes about 10-15 min.
its rather unsettling when a 300 ft boat pulls up along side an 800ft boat at about 70 yds at about 15 knots. and take on stuff.

we were not allowed to take a knee.

We did not have "safe" spaces either as I recall.

No one was politically correct. If I acted as a dumbass then I was called out as a dumbass. For all of the troops to see.

Back in the day when ships were made of wood and men were made of iron. Iron men with a constant woody as I recall.

I made petty officer dumbass a few times as I recall.
got to chat with the XO and the captian a few times.
we had an F14 buzzing us oneday that had not communicated with the ship.
we ran a systems test that painted him with a track lock from the fwd CIWS.
I did not realize how maneuverable an F14 was.

a few minutes later a whole group of us were on the bridge.

I am glad I did not have to clean that G suit.

this system test does everything but cycle the barrels.

I have a pump shotgun that I used to use for turkey hunting. With the 3 1/2 inch turkey loads it kicks harder than any gun I have ever used...not fun.
            Can't imagine a 2 or 4 guage

              them little carbines kick.
I have a 24/30 Venezuelan carbine that hurts.
but when I was in the US navy we used an m14 with a line throwing charge when doing unreps.

Those old military cartridges are loopers! That 12guage kicks a lot harder than my 7 mm magnum bolt. Hell, military guys think the 308 kicks. Spoiled by those 223 popguns

                  like I said.
grab an old 8x56 straight pull carbine . load it with 208gr FMJ with about 43 gr IMR4895.
you now have a bucking weapon.

that is why I started using cast lead and trail boss .

after about 80 rnds of surplus Russian in an old 91/30 your shoulder gets a tad tired.
