My engine is a Yamaha 150 hp TXRC 2-stroke. I bought the engine with 325 hrs on it and had a rough time getting it to work well. Engine simply sat idle for too long with bad fuel. Works great now but I'm a little gun-shy because of the initial problems. I usually ***** with jigs at around 2200 rpm. Would like to try *****ing with bait which would mean going down to around idle speed (750 rpm) for extended time. I'd bring the engine up to cruising speed coming home. Would this low rpm have any adverse affect on the engine over time? Sure appreciate your comments.

I have *****ed extensively with a 25 HP two stroke and a 175 EFI two stroke. More than a thousand hours on the 25 HP motor and maybe 500 hours on the two stroke. I never had a problem. Doubt that you will either. *****ing is one of the features that a motor is designed for.
Only suggestion is that if Yamalube is used, and if there is a plug fouling problem, then try another brand of two stroke oil. It has helped many.

With my C90 2stroke premix Yamaha I do a lot of " just above idle" cruising on stump and log infested rivers in Florida and the Pennzoil 100% Synthetic just does not foul the plugs....of course when I get to open water I give it a good wide open throttle run for a few minutes to sorta "blow it out"

I recon the spec idle rpm range for your engine is 650 +/- 50, or close to it. Assuming your idle speed is within spec, essentially you're asking if there are adverse effects of idling in gear. As rodbolt stated, you can safely idle all day long.Jason

I like to vary rpms some every 10 min or so. Sitting at idle with 200-1 ratio there is not much oil getting on parts.....
Actually I've been putting oil in the gas as well lately. 200-1 ....so I guess then I'm idling at 100-1. I'd rather have a little extra oil in there despite any cost consideration.

some years back I collected a 100 dollar bet.
bet was my 85 120 looper jonnyrude with VRO could not idle from kitty hawk bay to the old manns harbor bridge and back.
it did.
I collected.
its about 9 miles each way.
set up and running correctly a 2 stroke will idle until it is out of fuel.
that was the whole point of variable ratio oiling.
at a dead idle they just don't need 50/1.
130/1 will work just fine.
