Hi, I know this is an old post. Hope you can still help.
I know early Yamaha 4 stroke outboards don't have the NMEA connection, but I would think the data would still be there.
Could you provide the ECU pin outs for the NMEA connection so I am able to wire up my own NMEA data point?
Thanks.
Regards,

but the only way to access it, prior to "Command Link" / NMEA 2000,
is by connecting to a PC running the YDIS software.
the capability for "conversion"/"transmission" of data via NMEA 2000
was only programmed into ECMs in or about 2005

Ok, so all it needs is a reflash of the ECM and some wiring?
I have done similar mods to my car. Adding the Power train twisted pair bus to the diagnostic connector and have then reflashed the ECU/ECM with my laptop to later model software. All pretty easy stuff.
Do you have any links to download later Yamaha engine software or know of anyone doing these mods?
