    I apologize to ya all you were only trying to help. I guess i took some of what was said the wrong way and for that i am sorry.. but words easily get diced up and lead astray. i should of had a lil thicker skin coming in....Thanks to ALL of you for you input and knowledge!!!! im sure ill have a few more dumbass ?s but if i dont ask i dont know.....

      So you probably have a long shaft engine on a boat with a transom build for a short shaft engine. That's going to slow you down big time.
      The cavitation plate should be even with the keel of boat.
      Can you please post the exact model and serial number from the data plate on the transom bracket...that will help.

        are the numbers that are on my tag........yes on being even with keel that is why im raising the transom and getting rid of the wood and welding in all aluminum. Again i cant thank you enough for any and all help!!!!! Its a true pleasure.....

          As usual I'm a bit late to reply.
          Going back to your original query, as far as I know the 9.9 hp has been derated (if that's the right word to a T8 (8 hp high thrust, that is really only a high ratio gear box)).
