Yamaha Mutifunction Speedo/Fuel Management gauge

I got this older gauge (Yamaha part# 6Y5-W0088-70-00) with a very nice used 2008 F225 I purchased from a good friend.

I've got it all working but can't get it to pick up GPS data for speed over ground from my Lowrance HDS gen2-8". (It will display water speed when I connect it to the water speedo pickup tube.)

I don't know if my problem is (a)my NMEA0183 connection to the HDS, (b)programming my HDS to transmit GPS info. to the gauge or (c) maybe programming or DIP switch settings on the gauge so it will use GPS info for speed rather than the water speed info.

Does anyone have a similar working setup?

and/or

Can anyone provide me with the original Yamaha install and operating instructions for this gauge?

for GPS info it requires a short adaptor cable.

Thanks very much for the info. The link to the 2008 rigging manual provided by"Fairdeal" is just what I was hoping for and I'll be checking all those DIP switches tomorrow!!

NMEA0183 confuses me so incase my problem is in that wiring and one of you is an expert with that also:

1. I have the pigtail Boscoe99 sent the info on and he had also kindly previously told me to connect the white+ wire in to the yellow TX+ NMEA0183 wire in my HDS gen 2. I have done that. It seems strange that with anything electrical only one wire needs to be connected. That pigtail also contains a red, black and a shield wire. Should any of them also be connected? I know the rigging manual doesn't even show them but maybe it is intended for professionals like you 3 who know what to do with the others?

2. Page 5-16 of the rigging manual says "3. Connect the ground lead for GPS and fuel management meter (with speedometer) to the same ground."

Are the ground leads this statement refers to:
(a) the GPS and gauge NMEA 0183 ground wires (Black or shield wires??) or
(b) the black ground wires in gauge and GPS harnesses that eventually connect the negative battery terminal?

unless you have gone to some lengths to wire your craft in a highly unusual manner,
"a ground is a ground is a ground"

The Yamaha gauge is already grounded - or it wouldn't work at all -
the Lowrance is grounded - or it wouldn't work -

so that connection is already there between them.

Thus the NMEA connection - Lowrance transmit to Yamaha receive - requires only a single additional wire.
