  • 225s stalls at idle

This is the second year I'm fighting this issue, and techs can't seem to find anything.

Twin 2005 F225TXR OBs on a Grady White 282. Both engines start right up, pull out of the slip, about half way down the lane at 4-5 mph, port stalls. Try to restart, no luck, but after a while heavy gas smell. Continue on the way out, 15 - 20 mins later try restart, fires right up, quickly increase power to that engine..no problems.

Starting to wonder if this is an injector issue? Cant be gas, starboard runs no issues. Changed out all filters. Changed plugs, techs say the pumps are fine.... anyone have similar issue??

    thanks for your help...

    interesting.
Seems you're saying at low speed, cold, it stalls and won't restart because its flooded.
    But otherwise it runs fine?

One or more injectors "sticking open"/"leaking"?
    ISC valve?
sensor out of whack? (air temp, MAP, engine temp)

      You're correct... thats what happens.

With the heavy gas smell, did you look under the hood and try to narrow it down?

Can you pull the spark plugs (when it's acting up) and see if any / all are wet / fouled?

Seems after your 15-20 minutes, the plugs "dry out" and then allow the engine to start.

YDS has a dynamic test for injectors and ISC valve. May or may not indicate a problem. But if you are sure he ran the tests, ok.

If an injector sticks open I wonder what the rail pressure would read?

Be a good time for Rodbolt to jump in....

rail pressure will dump pretty fast if an injector is open.
typically it dumps raw fuel into the ex making pretty rainbows.
the vst vents into the airbox. a leaking needle can cause it to go rich.

thanks everyone... when you say pretty rainbows.. you mean in the water? If so... absolutely it does that, after I have been trying to start it.

Had it checked today by another tech, he said he's 90% sure is the charcoal vent??? sounds interesting.

                      yes, interesting
if there is liquid fuel exiting the carbon canister vent,
it had to get there - as Rodbolt suggested - as a consequence of a leaking VST needle valve
