Connecting newer oil tank to older motor?

So I have a 1990 Yamaha 225 ETLD and want to replaced the oil remote oil tank. Well they don't sell the whole assembly anymore but was looking at a newer one and everything looks the same but the plug that connects to the motor. My plug now is round and the new one is square. I guess my main question is can it be done by cutting new plug off and splicing old plug on or is there something I'm missing?

or buy the correct adapter and harnesss as nessassary.
they do make a round to square adapter.
they do sell the original switch assy.
