I'm changing out my poppet valve to the new style and replacing the grommet and spring while I'm at it.

My question is regarding the grommet - it's turned into my own personal hell today...

Does the grommet go over the "lip" on the water jacket? Or does it just sit in the hole and the mushroom head holds it in?

I've dropped it in twice now and it's getting old.... I'm now putting it in with a small piece of wire hanger in the hole in case it goes through again..

    Thank you

That grommit slips over the hole block with one lip on one side, the other lip facing you...

      It's very flexible.

Get it started on the bottom, then push downward (on the now top edge) with a small screw driver and force the top lip into the opening. Piece of cake...

I put a knats hair of Yamaha's waterproof grease on the block where it slips over, just to help prevent
      corrosion to the block.

nimble fingers to work it into place are needed.
good idea to rig up something to help get it back out of the hole when you shove it in there and drop it.
we have faith in you, you can do it

She's all done - busy day of maintenance- and a lot more to do once I started digging in.

Will post up with pictures soon. But I can say that replacing the poppet valve went from no tell tale and an overheat on muffs to pissin laser beams!

Worth it. In my opinion, blood is a great gasket sealer.

Had an I/O once - we don't discuss that dark time.

This is timely for me. I posted a thread about a week ago on no tell tail and the consensus was an issue with the poppet valve. I am just waiting for my iboats parts order to arrive to tackle this same job on my F115. If you have pictures I'd love to see them before I start.

my guess on the F115 is a clogged line or clogged cooler.
                  but that is just me.

In my case the lines are fine and so is the fuel cooler.

I did lots of testing so I know where the issue is. See the thread I started early last week. Still waiting for parts to verify.

Not sure if the 4-strokes are the same - but I'll definitely get a post up this week.
