Carb Settings

I have a 1998 VMax that is out of whack. I cleaned the carbs and jets but now my settings are out. Short of buying a sync meter, can someone tell me what the initial settings should be. Thanks a lot!

none of the 98 model V motors need a sync meter.
however I have no clue what a sync meter is or how to use it.

Im probably calling it something wrong but its a gizmo that you plug into each carb which measures vaccuum. You tune / sync the carbs with each other.

I believe Rod was saying that there is no place to hook them up to on your motor

1-3/4 initial plus minus 1/4.
Set it and forget it.
If you need to play with carb, you have other problems. Timing? Just buy service manual.

All of the set up procedures are described in the applicable service manual. Too detailed to provide here.

Idle mixture screw setting
Ignition timing
Carburetor linkage adjustment
Idle speed adjustment
Pickup timing adjustment

There is no procedure for synching the carburetors to each other via a manometer/vacuum gauge if that is what you are thinking.

1-3/4 initial plus minus 1/4. For the starboard carburetors.

3/4 initial plus minus 1/4 for the port carburetors
Set it and forget it.
If you need to play with carb, you have other problems. Timing? Just buy service manual.

I hear ya, I bought mine. But I can't tell you how many times I've been given live bait at the boat ramp prior to heading out to net bait. I chalk this up to me being the bait giver at times. Comes full circle, IMO.

Have you tried downloading and then opening one? Seems to be read only. I can't save one and reopen it later.
