  • OMC/Yamaha 4.3 V6 200 issues (2 stroke)

    Morning fellas!

Finally took out my used but new to me 79' Glastron 21ft Sea Fury CC.

Everything went great. Accept for 2 things. Once we got her in the water she seemed to struggle a little more than usual. She wanted to cold start on the "Run" setting on the fuel primer rather than the "Start up" setting.

She smoked a good bit which was semi normal but it was a little longer than normal and she seemed to run a little bit rough.

After a good 10 min warm up at the docs she seemed to be find so we idled out.

Once we got out the second problem occured. Note I've never taken this out of the harbor until today. But around half throttle she seemed to have a little bit of a shake or vibration. You couldn't see it but you could feel it on the boat/pilot seat.

1/4 or 3/4 throttle it was fine and the vibration was gone.

Anyone have any clue what the vibration or weird cold smokey start was about?

Only thing for the hard start and smoke is assume because I was lazy on the oil/fuel mix and poured the 64oz of oil into the tank before fueling up 26 gallons of fuel rather than fully mix it per 5 gal.

    As always, appreciate any help!

      All I know is it's a OMC 1997 4.3 200hp V6 outboard.

And looks like a Yamaha lower unit. I bought the boat used and that's all the guy knew was it's an 97 200 OMC.

As per usual number plate/ID number is missing.

Post some pics a little closer to engine. Cowl on and with cowl off? Maybe a few people can identify the motor by looking at it....

          OMC Yamaha?

          4.3 2 stroke?

              Tell me about it.

Youd think these companies would have some common sense to apply tags that would actually stay on theese motors.

                Yes 4.3 2 stroke.

It was listed and the seller told said its a 97 OMC. But from my best guess it looks as if the lower unit and upper cowl is a Yamaha unit. And the block was repowered with a OMC block.

From my google and research that's what it looks to be.

thieves can remove just about any ID tags/stickers to keep the product from being IDed they even grind off numbers

Doesn't hurt when some just use stickers and it's common to lose ID tags as well.

Still need help with my issue on the rough start and vibrations.

That's weird because when he had the boat in storage it had a white Johnson 200 cover on it that fit but didn't match at all.

But the cover that color matches, fits and is on it right now says very faded "Yamaha 115 enduro". But I know it's a V6 200 because 115's were v4

                          Blue - Current cover

He gave me both by the way. The Johnson cover is sitting in storage.

This needs to be posted over on the Johnson/Evinrude forum. Maybe Seahorse is watching and can give you some good advice.

Well the question is just general outboard tho.

What would cause a outboard to vibrate during mid throttle?
