  • yamaha f115 throttle position sensor

I have a 115 outboard that will start if you advance the throttle forward or reverse from the top position leaving it in neutral. once you try to engage the engine will die. It will not start with the throttle in normal top neutral position. Someone mentioned it may be a throttle sensor that is bad. How do you go about diagnostics test for this? THANKS

I gather you don't have a shop manual?

With the engine cowl off and the engine running, turn it off and LISTEN for a multi clicking from the engine. That is you idle speed control or ISC) unit re-setting (for the next start up). It's what controls the idle speed.

If you do NOT hear anything, its a good place to start checking.

Should be atop the engine, above the plastic intake plenum.

        - AKA, Throttle Position Sensor or TPS.

And #10 is the ICS that should click when turned off from running...
