I have a 1991 200 TXRP that has run flawlessly. The other day motoring in when over 4000 rpm the speed drop function activated and the rpm's dropped to 2000 and would not rev higher. At the same time the green/yellow/red oil indicators were flashing. I shifted into neutral and the indicators stopped flashing. I checked both the engine and reserve oil tanks which were full. Ran it again under 4000 with no issues but over 4000 the same thing happened after a minute. No audible alarms went off. When the key turns on the alarm does go off for a few seconds so it appears to be working. I changes the water pump which looked OK and the thermostats.
We went back out and after 5 miles of driving the same thing happened. I reset it by putting the shifter in neutral and kept the rpm's around 2500. As the seas got rougher the problem started to happen more.....this time the 3 indicator lights would flash...........then the tack display went blank and the motor speed drop function activated. Also, when I turned this motor off and restarted it to let it idle....the tack display would go off and the key alarm sounded as if the motor stalled..........but the motor was still running fine at idle.
The tach signal going out just before the problem started leads me to think this is electrical or possibly the CDI Box ??
I checked the alarms with the lanyard off......when I turned the key on, cranked the motor then left the key in the on position....no alarm sounded. ON the other motor when I did the same thing when the key returned to the on position from cranking and intermittent alarm went off. Despite the fact that the alarm goes off when the key is in the "on" position with the lanyard in does the above test mean my alarm is not working and it should have activated when the above problem occurred? Also....the temp indicator in the guage did NOT go off.
I read a few threads that the motor could be filled with Lyme/Calcium so I will try to get Rydlyme to flush it which seemed to work on a few threads I read.
I am also going to check all the electrical connections as the tach cutting out as the problem occurred has me concerned.
Any input would be helpful, Thanx.
