no spark means the lanyard is working. make sure the brown wire to the ECU or the DES switch is connected.
the ECU controls the grond path to the horn VIA the pink wire in the ten pin main harness.
if the ECU detects a start signal and a stop signal it inhibits spark and grounds the pink wire, yellow is key on power for the horn and other functions.

What is and where is the DES switch ?? Is that the neutral switch assembly at the shifter ??

Are you saying that this switch could be telling the ECU/CDI to inhibit spark for shifting when it shouldn't meaning the switch is grounding or failing intermittently? At one point when this occurred and I restarted the motor it was fine in neutral but the second I put it in gear the 3 lights began flashing and the motor was in speed down mode. In addition when I put it in neutral most of the cylinders were having their spark cut.

the DES(Dual Engine Switch) is located behind the keyswitch panal.
it is that black box on the panal bracket.
that engine should spark on all six in N.
I cannot remember if it has a shift cut switch,if it does unplug it and test.
the DES is set up so if either engine goes into RPM reduction they both do.

port ket to on=port alarm sounds.
stbd key on =stbd alarm sounds.
pull the stop lanyard and turn the key to start and it should crank and sound the alarm.

OK....checked it again with the lanyard off and the Port motor alarm does now sound after the motor is cranked and the key put into the "on" position but it is the same sound as when the key is first put in the "on" position with the lanyard connected. The STBD motor alarm that sounds after cranking with the lanyard disconnected then key in "on" position is an alternating high/low tone beep.

So...when this problem occurs I get the 3 flashing lights without an alarm.

I would go with a low voltage issue. check all the wiring to and from the keyswitch to the ECU.

I tested the engine oil tank sensor by letting it drain and all three lights came on flashing but no alarm sounded. This is the same thing that happens on the water episodically so I changed out the float sensor and will test the boat out this weekend. If this does not solve the problem then the only other sensor that can cause a speed drop to activate is the one in the reserve tank under the deck.

Interesting.....my manual states that when the oil tank on the engine is empty all three light flash...alarm sounds and the motor goes into speed drop mode.

I tested my alarm with the lanyard pulled....turned the key...cranked the motor and put the key in the on position and the alarm kept sounding.....doesn't this mean the alarm works?

When I performed the same test on the STBD motor the alarm did go off...so I don't understand why it wouldn't go off on the Port motor if the lanyard test for the alarm was successful ??

Working on it. I'm thinking maybe something is wrong in the key mechanism as all the wiring has tested OK.

the switch in the remote tank never ever sets an alarm audible.
