  • problems continue with oil injection

    hey folks,

had problems awhile back with the oil injection on my 1994 200 sws. the problem was no oil transfering from aux tank to main tank and could not pump using the emergency switch. did some checking and found the filter on the aux tank was clogged so we replaced filter and cleaned aux tank. after cleaning tank and replacing filter we could now fill the main tank with the emergency switch, we thought we had fixed the problem but now it still doesn't transfer and now we can't hear the pump working and when we use the emergency switch the alarm goes off when hit the switch. i guess we have to do more checking, any help would be appreciated..........

    thanks, stoney

Do you have Yamaha Tach with oil lights?
If yellow light on oil will not transfer.Needs to be a green light on.
Do you have a Trim Gauge?
If trim gauge on 1990-95 models showing trimmed up position, oil will not transfer. Replace trim sender if not reading correctly.

I have a similar problem with my '90 ETLF 200hp. I replaced the engine tank (slide) sensor and cleaned out the boat tank but that didn't fix the problem.

I have noticed that the yellow light stays on most of the time and only rarely will it go to green.

Does the yellow light indicate that the boat tank level sensor is too low, that the motor is trimmed up, or both?

      Thanks

I have a 2002 Yamaha 130 and I suddenly started having problems with the oil injection. I did hit a sunken island at about 20 mph and worked my motor hard in the up position. (By the way- had to be pulled off the island) I don't know if this started the problem or not. Can't find any loose wires. The tilt & trim gauge needle does not show the motor is down. Is that gauge connected to the motor and could that be my problem? My lower resevior is full, but when the upper tank gets low, the low oil buzzer beeps. Any help before I take it in? Thank you.

you may ned to check your trim indicator mounted to your tilt tube under lower cowl in front, that senses trim tilt levels and you may have jarred, broken or it may be seized up. if seized, work it loose with some lube and keep marine grade grease on it.

I geatly appreciate your time. I checked the tilt and trim today (at the lake)and I can't see any type of indicator. All I can see is the main rod for raising and lowering motor. Pump and oil reserve and two rods that go down when the motor gets to a certain angle and naturally help in raising to a certain point. Can you be a little more specific on what I should be looking for? I also tapped the gauge on the dash, but naturally nothing changed there. Pictures would naturally be very helpful. I did replace the indicator and thought pump was working, but now still beeps when low and need to use reserve pump. Does that indicator need to be set just right?

The newer engines like the 2002 you have have a mercury switch inside the ECU thats stops the oil transfer if motor is trimmed too high and the trim sender doesn't affect the oil transfer(it does on older motors). If the emergency switch does transfer oil then it's probably either the engine oil tank sensor or the remote oil tank sensor. If you have a Yamaha tach with oil level indicators then make sure it is showing full oil level, if middle bar is flashing it will not transfer oil and the oil level in remote oil tank is low or the sensor is bad. If tach is showing full oil level and wont transfer oil then the engine oil tank sensor may be bad. When testing this system remember that the engine needs to be running for it to work. Always check all wire connections and grounds before replacing parts.

Anyone have any pics of the emergency switch? I have a 2003 Yamaha 150 that is having a problem with keeping the inner tank filled.

the switch should be on the rear of the powerhead,in a cutout of the ECU cover, upper left
