2017 F200 Model

Hey guys. Helping my cousin re-power his boat. He's wanting the 2017 F200, 20" shaft (L). I know yamaha offers the "L" model (TLR), but boats.net doesn't list a F200TLR model. The 25" shaft model is listed (F200TXR), but not the 20".

What am I missing?

I think I've found it, F200LB. Though I have no idea what "B" stands for, unless it indicates 2017.

There has never been an F200TLR model. Only the F200TXR model was offered. It is of a V6 configuration.

Yamaha stopped using model years in 2006.

An F200LB is an I4 configuration motor. Four cylinders in an inline configuration. The F stands for four stroke, the 200 is the HP, the L stands for long shaft and the B denotes it is the second generation version. The F200XA (a V6) being the first generation.

Yamaha took a very simple and understandable model designation system and made it as clear as mud. I think they have painted themselves into a corner. 11 years after making the model code changes there is as much confusion as ever.

With no more model years since 2005, there have been F200LB models offered from 2012 through 2017. In Yamaha's eyes they are all the same. An F200LB made in 2012 is the equal of one made in 2017. Or so they try and tell the customers.

The F stands for four stroke, the 200 is the HP, the L stands for long shaft and the B denotes it is the second generation version. The F200XA (a V6) being the first generation.

Your words in bold now has me confused, sorry. Is the code reference chart still in effect for models 2006 and later? Because the chart states "L" is a 20" shaft.

My cousin currently has either a '09 or '10 F150 with a 20 inch shaft. He wants the F200 in the 20" shaft model. What model number is this?

S = Short shaft 15"
L= Long shaft 20"
X = Exrta long shaft 25"
U = Ultra long shaft 30"

Any model Yamaha with an L after the HP rating indicates it is a motor with a 20" shaft. Or mid-section length. Made for a boat that has a transom that is nominally 20" in height.

Folks want lighter weight motors with more HP. The I4 F200 weighs about 100 pounds less than the V6 F200. With twins that is over 200 pounds of weight savings.

The I4 models are narrower than the V6 models. If someone is repowering a boat with twin two strokes to V6 four strokes they might have to plug and redrill the transom mount holes (because the four stroke V6 motors are wider than two stroke V6 motors). With an I4 four stroke they don't have to.

There was little demand for a 20" shaft 3.3 liter V6 F200. So Yamaha never offered one. Just like there is little demand for a 30" shaft I4 F200. So they didn't offer it. Demand and supply. But then along came the SHO V6 F200 and they did make it available in a 20" shaft version. But initially not in a 25" version. But then they changed their minds about that as well. You can now get an SHO with a 25" shaft.
