  • Water in PTT motor

Hi, Have a 2013 Yamaha F150xa, only on year 4 of this baby.

PTT gave out last week on a fishing trip. I troubleshot the problem to the PTT motor. When I opened her up, she had a bit of water in the lower portion of the housing. That is, the lower 1/4 of the PTT housing was WET.

I considered cleaning her up, but then noted that the lower bearing was shot, obviously from sitting in water. I don't see bearings available for the armature.

I'm now wondering if I should buy a new armature, o-ring and lower seal (maybe $130), and clean up the brushes, etc. Or should I bite the bullet for a new motor (aftermarket $200)?

    Thoughts?

    thanks

I would go with an aftermarket motor. Maybe scuff sand it and apply an extra coat or two of good paint. Monitor it going forward for corrosion. Fix as necessary.

    Other thoughts will vary.

      Boscoe's advice is always good.
I think you can find an "aftermarket" for well under $200 -
Its summer - get back to using the boat quickly - and maybe it will hold up.

But hang on to those Yamaha parts just in case.
If the windings and commutator bars are ok - you can replace the bearings for pennies.
Motor bearings are one of the few truly standard items on the planet -
      they'll be a number on the shields - 60-something
Buy them on eBay direct from where they are made (China)
