there is a filter on the VST and one on the HP pump and one in each injector.
    regular VST maint is required.

Ran the boat last night, check engine came on around 2000 RPMs, and this time I managed to get the error code off the gauge, #24. Just a few questions:

      1) just want to confirm this is indeed the code for the camshaft sensor. Motor is 2009 F250BTXR

      2) Basic research says its easy to replace, any tips on this appreciated.

      3) Motor has 1,200 hours. Is this something that just goes out randomly and should I go ahead and replace the sensor on the port motor

      thanks guys

        Cam Position Sensor, EXhaust

Does that mean the sensor is bad? I don't know - but I would not take it for granted.

        cam position sensor EX
        cam position sensor IN (2)
        throttle position sensor
        Acceleration position sensor
        knock sensor
        electronic throttle valve
        oil control valves

        the mind reels...

Every post about the F250 makes me so happy to own that nice simple 6-throttle body F225.....

          Acceleration position sensor?

I need to determine the position of my acceleration said the motor....

fairdeal, are you saying that #24 could be all those other things, instead of or in addition to the cam sensor? I want to add that I have electronic controls, and the lights are lit up as blue, not amber, so shouldnt be any trouble there.

Here is the list that I found:

13 Pulser coil 62 Fuel pressure too low
14 Crank position sensor 68 Variable cam timing (STBD)
15* Water temp sensor 69 Variable cam timing (PORT)
15* Engine temp sensor 71 Cam position sensor (STBD INT)
17 Knock sensor 72 Cam position sensor (PORT INT)
18 Throttle position sensor 73 Oil control valve (STBD)
19 Battery voltage 74 Oil control valve (PORT)
            22 Atmospheric press sensor 83 Trim/tilt sensor
23 Intake temp sensor 85 ION detection module
24 Cam position sensor (EXH) 112 - 119 Electronic throttle system
25 Fuel press sensor 121 - 123 Electronic throttle system
            26 Injector 124 - 128 Throttle position sensor
27 Water in fuel 129 Electronic throttle system
28 Shift position switch 131 - 135 Accelerator position sensor
29 Intake press sensor 136 - 139 Electronic throttle system
37 Intake air passage 141 - 145 Electronic throttle system
39 Oil press sensor 146 - 150 Shift position sensor
44 Engine stop lanyard switch 153 - 155 Shift position sensor
            45 Shift cut-off switch 156 - 157 ENG-R.C. communication
            46 Overheat thermoswitch 160 - 181 Remote control system
            49 Over cooling 183 - 184 Remote control system

all I'm saying is that -

not specific to this motor, this code because I have no experience with it-

              but in general -

you can not rely on the engine trouble code to directly indicate a bad part

it may be, or it may be the result of something else

Need Rodbolt to give advice on could cause this code 24.

maybe the cam is not doing what the motor wants it to be doing

yes thanks, just dont want to swap the part out if something else is going on.

                  will see what Rodbolt says.........

like I said NO CODES for ANY fuel issues on that motor.
ONLY HPDI used any fuel codes.
code 24 on the F250 simply means the ECU does not recognize the EX cam sensor signal.
could be a ref issue,a ground issue or the rare sensor failure.
good thing is it is simple to test.

                      Thanks Rodbolt

Update: mechanic put the computer on it and it shows a code for the pulser coil and within a few minutes code went off for the cam sensor exhaust. Pulser coil voltage change I guess affected the cam sensor?

So many of you guys are correct, it may not be the sensor all along. Could be several things, but the good part doesnt look like a fuel issue but electrical.

Havent heard back what he is going to do but I can guess pulser coil to be replaced then test the cam sensor.

I just wonder what may cause the pulser coil to go bad or I guess it just happens.

You may not need a pulser coil. I had that code when I first plugged up my YDS several years ago. I cleared the code and never saw it again. Test it before you replace. You probably need a service manual.

yes that is what we are thinking, the pulser coil may be OK. The battery leads were slightly loose, offshore boat that takes a pounding. Gonna replace the sensor, clear the codes and run it. If it still powers down to safe mode then will replace pulser coil is what I imagine mechanic will do. Just getting opinions on here as well.

                          thanks

I replaced the cam sensor, ran the boat and still powering itself down and getting the code 24. Maybe it is the pulser coil like the diagnostic showed

checked the battery leads all seems ok

Any other ideas? Gonna have to take it to a master tech just hoping to fix myself for the holiday, but this could be above my pay grade....

                            Thanks for any further tips

you can swap the cam sensors and see if it follows.

you can test pulser coil outputs.

                              this stuff aint hard.

in your first post, you said

"running fine for about 30 mins at high Rpms then powered itself down in safe mode not allowing more than 32-3400 Rpm"

are you saying you can't get over 3400 rpms? but you can get to 3200?

or you can get over 3400 momentarily and then it drops down?
