  • Speedometer 2002 Yamaha 90

I have a Yamaha 90 2 stroke and the speedometer does not register.
I know it has a tube from the helm to the motor, but I can't find an orifice in the leading edge of the lower unit.
Does the 90 have one? I have the SELOC manual, which is a complete waste of time, and it doesn't address speedometers on any of the engines covered.

Yes, the lower unit has a pitot tube. Run your thumbnail up the leading edge starting at the nose of the LU. Your nail should snag on the hole. From the side the hole looks crescent shaped. If there is mucho crappo in the hole it may be hard to see.

A 3/32nd drill bit can be used to auger debris out.

Thanks, the fix seems absurdly simple - once you know, I'll now go look a little more carefully.
