I'm not much of a Motorhead so any information would be greatly appreciated. The motor started and ran great the day I bought the boat. Went to start it today and no luck. It turns over. Kill lanyard is connected. Prime bulb is full. What do I check next? Thanks!

Yes the lever is lifted. I turn the motor over for about a second then hit the choke. I've had a few 200 horsepower 2 stroke Mercury outboards and a couple older 150 Johnson's and that's how I always started them. That's how I started this the one time that it ran. Model number of the V6EXCELXF. Thanks for the help!

You have a 1989 engine with carbs and butterfly choke assemblies (no prime start):

Pull the cowl off, and see if the choke linkage is moving when you activate the choke switch.
Once that's working,
on a cold start, try a slightly higher idle but choke it from the start..Scott

I've experienced a kill switch issue before where the "key" was slightly cracked. Because of that, it wouldn't pull the kill switch "pin" out far enough. Possibly this is happening with you, or the key is worn. Try manually pulling the pin out fully.
I assume that the kill switch cuts spark on your engine... you can also check by seeing if you have spark at the engine (check a plug). It would good to know if you have spark, regardless, as that is one of the 3 main components of fire.Last edited by DennisG01; 06-25-2017, 01:46 PM.2000 Yamaha OX66 250HP SX250TXRY 61AX103847T
