OMC Tachometer Installation

Hey everyone,

I recently bought an OMC Tachometer, and was wondering how I can hook it up to my Yamaha F9.9BE. The instructions refer to the pulses per revolution.

I do not think it will work, being that tach is for a motor with points and condenser.

Even If it is possible to run off of the signal of the yamaha, Have you looked to see how many pulses the F9.9.

I forget what year version - but that chart is from a Yamaha document called "Rigging Guide"

a google search will turn up .pdfs for various years going back to ~2000 -
and then most recently they can be found as a viewable "Adobe flash"

Some tach settings use pulse setting and not pole setting, 3 pulse is same as 6 pole.

search didn't turn up anything for a 2004 that you didn't have to purchase for 60 to 70 $. I was really just interested in knowing exactly how many poles my stator has on the 2004 F115 TLRC.

well, this is from the 2008 - so think we can be confident it applies to your engine:

all 4-strokes between 15 and 250 hp are 12 pole

Thanks Boscoe I found the PDF document your link goes to but since on about the second page it stated based on 2012 year models available at time of printing I was unsure it would still apply to a 2004 engine, things even with yamaha do change

Interesting. Did not know that. So the OP's gauge may work.

It says it is for a motor that has points and condenser (12 volt system), so it may not work with his Yamaha (alternator poles)
