    I don't see it?

Boscoe, can you post a pic / part # where it manually adjusts?(the spring/belt)

I am sure the service manual would have the info on how to adjust.

Being I have never looked at one, my guess would be to manually rotate and adjust the spring tension to a certain point and then tighten down.

Boscoe has lots of pic's and rodbolt states it's manual adjustment.

Simple question, should be a simple answer.

Boscoes pic, (post #3), show's the spring attaches to two non movable hooks.

How is that a manual adjustment??

I'm sure the poster would like to know as well.. Boscoe/Rodbolt?

I thinks you are all correct. I looks to me like a manual/automatic belt tensioner.

The manual part is to loosen the bolt on the roller (tensioner) which has an elongated mounting hole in it.

The spring then Automatically puts the correct amount of tension on the belt, as the roller can now slide in its elongated slot.

Then you manually tighten the bolt on the roller to keep it there.

So its an manual adjustment with an automatic function (spring) for the correct belt tension.

I don't know if service manual says exactly that, but I bet its close to it.

That makes sense but bringing up the part #, bolt #5, in all the pic's, is a regular, non-"oval". IE, it just secures the roller W/O any adjustment..

            90119-10M72-00 YAMAHA BOLT,WITH WASHER

I don't see any other adjustments on the parts diagram, slots on a mounting bracket, etc(simply assemble, install the spring last)..

                Certainly NOT the right terminology.

But a bolt, with a shank, (as long as the roller itself). The shank is OFF-SET, NOT centered.

IE, depending on the "clocking" of the bolt, it will move the roller closer OR farther away being adjustable(moving the roller closer or farther away..

You can see below how an an adjustment CAN be made with JUST the position of the bolt. The Yamaha bolt, part #5, is NOT OFF-SET, just regular, no adjustment.

                    There ya go!

Had to be something to move/adjust to be manually adjustable.

Not much room to move, but definitively adjustable..

We need a better picture of this bolt. I am wondering if the oval locks the tensioner in place so that it rotates on the bearings and not on the bolt shaft.

Or was this pic just an example? Not a Yam part? Never mind...

                            has the world gone nuts?????

                            it is very simple.
                            loosen the bolt.
move the flywheel in its regular rotation a bit.
                            tighten the bolt.
                            adjustment is done.

yes Virginia it is that simple.

Yes, 99Yam said he never heard of an offset shank bolt.

Your Toyota tensioner is an example of it.

Found a pic and posted it.

And yes, "it is that simple Virginia", as I posted earlier, (but I'm nuts and on crack anyway)
