Being its just tensioning a belt for a fuel pump, it's NOT a super critical part if it skipped a tooth. Heck it's been running without it for sometime now...
Now the hydralic, fancy tensioners for the VALVE CAM SHAFTS, those are critical. Obviously you don't want it to potentially jump one tooth. The dampening with these tensioners, helps keep the belt tension more steady.
I never took one apart, however, it's going to be much more stout than a simple spring which can (and DID) break...Scott

The SPRING, that's what the thread is about, (read THE first post).
The spring simply puts tension on the belt, PERIOD.
Try staying on topic...

It is a two stroke. The belt drives a cam shaft. It is a cam shaft drive belt.
In either case (as you seem to like playing with words), the SPRING, simply activates the tensioner.Scott

We should stop using terms for parts. Creates too much confusion. Only part numbers. But now that would be a problem too as many of those have been superseded. What to do? Assumptions have to be made. Arguements ensue.
I have a cam in my shifter in my car. At least that's what I call it other than a POS on bad days. It goes clunk when I shift. Secured by an M3 screw. Too damn small, comes loose and jams the thing where I can't shift. I said f it and used a little blue loctite.

It's very simple. It goes to the belt tensioner, (both in the pic and the link-which shows the parts #, where it goes and most importantly, how to get a replacement).

Someone needs to get a sense of humor.
The third post in this thread described the spring. That should have closed this thread.
It was not me that brought the issue of no cams and no belts.
"Its a two stroke, NO cams/ cam belts." That was brought up in post #10. Why? I have not a clue.
But since the topic of no cams or no cam belts was raised it was appropriate to correct the record. This particular model does use a cam shaft and a cam shaft drive belt.Last edited by boscoe99; 06-20-2017, 12:45 PM.

my motor has a fever.
it is all about the jinglish.
the above motor does have a camshaft.
however it is part of a sub assembly.
the tensioner is not automatic it is manual.
most posters are nuts and have never actually used the tensioner.
