2014 Yamaha F300 twice yesterday "check engine" came up on my gauge with an orange light on the binnicle. Pulled them back and noticed steam coming from the engine like it was hot but no overheat alarm .The steam didn't last but a second or two and the check engine went away when I pushed the mode button but the orange light stayed on the binnical.
I shut it down and checked the prop, looked fine and oil was good as well, nothing in fuel filters. It fired right back up and continued high speed *****ing for an hour or so.
We high speed ***** around 3600 rpm which is the hardest the engine works. They are pushing a 11,000 pound walk around. We had been *****ing for 3 hrs before the first check engine came up
*****ed 2-3 more hrs but at 1,100 rpm and everything was fine. We went back to high speed *****ing and about 30 min into it the "check engine" came back up but no steam this time and the message went away when I hit the mode button. Kept *****ing at the 34-3600 rpm s for about an hr and everything was fine. After that we ran in st 4,000 rpm for the 2 hr ride home without any problems.
36 hrs since last oil change where we did the impellers as well. That engine ate an impeller just before the last service and did overheat but I've been out 2 times since the service and haven't had any issues. The only thing different is that was the first day I high speed *****ed.
