  • Suzuki ups the bar

    Will Yamaha be following suit?

V6 with 350 HP output. Normally aspirated. Contra-rotating propellers. 12:1 compression ratio.

    Appears to be direct injection.

    "Dual Injectors

Two, smaller fuel injectors allow for precise injection of fuel to the center of the combustion chamber, which avoids off-center combustion – a major cause of knocking. In addition, because 100% of the fuel is injected into the cylinder at once, a degree of cooling is also obtained, providing up to 3% additional power without causing knocking."

Well Yamaha. Where are you with respect to further development of your V6 models to counter the competition?

personally I have no interest in a 350 hp outboard -
much less that it will "take up less space in twin, triple and quad installations "

but it will be nice that more efficient technology trickles down to smaller engines - and forces competitors to keep up

so much that I don't know about Suzuki outboards; such as

"Like Suzuki’s other V6 outboards, the DF350A features Suzuki’s offset driveshaft engine layout, which allows for a more compact outboard and two-stage gear reduction."

    can't imagine what they mean.
wonder if that is related to another tidbit I've read,
that Zukes can be made counter rotating by "flipping a switch"

Fairdeal I would have hazarded a guess that you are the most inquisitive of this surly bunch of boaters/gear heads. I would have thought that you would have done your research and had it all figured out.

The offset driveshaft is pretty simple, the power head is actually mounted forward of the drive shaft to the gear case, bringing weight into the boat, rather than hanging out the back, the drive is via a chain, they have used it for years. The electronic reverse rotation has also been around for ages, but only on bigger HP.
