Didn't see one either on the parts diagram. Exact MODEL # PLEASE.
Couple things, did you see ANY DAMAGE/ warping to the WP MAIN housing?
ANY, WILL cause pumping issues.
When you pulled the impeller was ALL of it there? (didn't break into pieces and clog up the block).
Lastly, did you replace the WP with a kit (wear plate, inner cup, seals, etc)?Scott

Some of those o-rings can be hard to keep in place prior to bolting the housing back down. If they are not seated correctly, they will leak water and reduce the flow to engine. I would drop lower and double check everything. I use gobs of grease to hold all those seals in place prior to tightening.
Are you sure it is an overheat warning? I believe low oil pressure could set off the alarm also. Not sure what type of indicators you have?

Redid the lower unit and found an old piece of impeller under the plate. Fixed and running fine now. Thanks for all the replies. Have another question ,while cleaning inside lower cowl found this little grommet. Looks like it might go on the end of the throttle cable but not sure. Here's a pic.Attached Files

What side of the engine did you find it (and forward/rearish)?
If it has a hole (or cut "x" slice) on the smaller end, it may be a water drain that sets in a hole on the lower cowling.
Lets water water out, doesn't let water in.
Don't that's it, part #18 is the closest:

And tks for the update on the overheating issue!

Looks like just a cover for a threaded rod if that's it but yamaha calls it an "overflow cap".. That parts diagram or at least the description is not right.
Now where does part #21, the linkage, go to? As it appears threaded, ???Last edited by TownsendsFJR1300; 06-06-2017, 07:49 AM.Scott

That parts diagram or at least the description is not right.
when you search on a single part number, its lists the entire "where used"
it appears that particular little cap originated on the carburetor of a 1989 engine.
Years later the engineers re-purposed it for this engine - same part # and description
