First off, thanks for any help you all can provide.
I have twin 2008 F350s (new ECUs and flywheels were serviced in 2015) on my contender 31T. I dropped the boat off at a 5-star **** certified yamaha service center to get the starboard engine lower unit seals replaced, warranty flywheel work done, water pump replaced, and a new timing belt installed due to the pulleys and tensioner seizing up (the belt never broke).
I commissioned the engines prior to dropping it off and had no problems starting and running both engines. Now, after having the all the service accomplished, the starboard engine runs rough at idle. After hours of troubleshooting, it's been determined that the engine is setting the variable camshaft timing to 20 degrees at idle, which (from what I understand) is a setting that should be more for higher throttle settings.
So far they've replaced the main wiring harness since there were some electrical anomalies, but that did not fix the problem. The mechanics are scratching their heads since there are no codes being thrown. Originally there was an 85 code, ION detection module, being thrown but the new wiring harness cleared that. The Yamaha engineers are supposedly involved and are not sure what is causing the issue. Mechanically, the engine has been tested and has no problems. The mechanic did note the timing belt had jumped a couple teeth after it had worn down from the seized pulleys but that did no internal damage to the engine.
Any ideas? Solely based on the service done, and the way the engine ran perfectly before I dropped it off, I thought the problem was due to the timing belt work but I've been assured that was accomplished correctly. Could it be a digital issue somewhere between the throttle and engine?
