Long time ethanol use here in Virginia and there is nowhere to find true gas without a long drive and hauling it back.
The guy next to me has a twin engine (carbureted) Lurhs which he seldom runs and as a consequence is full of ancient gas. When I inquired about his lack of fuel problems he told me about Startron Enzyme Fuel treatment. That was several years ago but I've been using it ever since. My fuel problems are one tenth of what they used to be. It may be that there are better things on the market now.
Ethanol is crap for sure, but 30 days crap has not been my experience.
Considering supply chain timing, if this was true, most gas would be out of date before arriving at retail. Unless you live in Houston or some area next to
pipelines. Fellow over there said ALL gas, not just ethanol.

I have also used startron in my carbureted engines to stop the jelly from forming. I also run any engine out off gas if possible for storage. these two things have saved me alot off work cleaning carbs after a winter off non use
untreated and improperly stored? I have seen e-fuels go bad in less than 6 weeks.
remember in high humidity areas and open fuel tank vents all it does is suck water 24/7 until it seperates.
Ethanol fuel can go bad in as quick as a month if untreated and it sits especially in a small carburetor...
I treat ALL fuel I buy (ethanol free for the boat) with either Gas Shok or K100. I've had non-ethanol fuel last longer than TWO YEARS that was TREATED (with K100).
Just bought two weed-eaters yesterday, wouldn't start-carb issues for $25.00.
One carb cleaned up by hand, new fuel lines, primer bulb runs great!
The other, needed the sonic cleaner, new lines, also NOW, run's great! Just waiting for our "rainy season" to sell them (actually keeping one it runs so good and selling my current spare).
Last week, picked up a 6 HP Honda PW with a nasty/clogged carb. Main just fully varnished up/closed, throttle valve, VERY STICKY and eventually loosened up(with lube). Needed a new fuel pump as well. Now runs like a top..
The guy that WAS throwing it out, paid for the repairs and it's back in service-He did not use any fuel treatment...
So yes, fuel does go bad very quickly if not used. It does seem to affect carbs MUCH WORSE than FI'ed engines...

Not that it matters at this point, but the THT member made the Definitive statement that ALL GAS is no good after 30 days. No matter what.....
Anyhow....
Fairdeal....you noted my response on the THT thread as unresponsive. I understand , BUT, this guy is in a panic to change a balancer assembly. I asked if he could post a video so we could listen. He may not have an immediate issue.
I too have noticed that FI engines seem less affected. It's my guess that carbureted engines have the fuel in the bowl exposed to the atmosphere (through vents in the carb) that break it down quicker. Since FI is under pressure and enclosed, maybe that doesn't happen because air/humidity can't get to it? Just a hunch.
Some guy at bobistheoilguy.com did a test of different gas stabilizers and the outcome was most worked well while some did last a bit longer. I now use Sta-bil marine for everything I own. I put it in the boat at each fill, all my gas cans get it. I don't bother with my car or motorcycles till I put them away for the winter.
