89 200 no water in port head

First time out this season and overheat alarm came on and determined that no water is flowing thru port head. Pee stream solid. Other head you can put your hand on it. PRV stuck? Any other leads?

Stuck thermostat? blocked water passage?

Thermostat wide open. How can I blow out blockage? Was fine last fall.

Is it stuck open?

read some good things about Rydlyme, but never used it muself

It was wide open when I pulled it out of the toasty head.....but passages were dry . I fired back up without stat and then removed stat and still bone dry.
Where might obstruction be?

Impossible to tell from behind a keyboard, if you are absolutely sure it's dry, then you will have to just work your way through it, either top to bottom, or bottom to top, there is two thermostats on that motor I think?? Seeing as it was OK last time you used it, could be a possible nest built by insects, mice or anything else maybe.

Tomorrow I'll pour white vinegar from top and maybe try to blow air with compressor.

typically if the pressure valve sticks open it overheats the stbd head first.
the water enters the powerhead on the stbd side. there is a crossover passage from the stbd to port side.
I have seen them corrode holes it them.

Anyway to get to that passage? Try white vinegar? pour in both tstat openings?

If you have total blockage I doubt white vinegar is mean enough to clear it.

Are you sure there is zero water in that head while running? If so, time to take it apart. Not going to be fun with an '89 model. Buy whatever kit you will need to drill out broken bolts. Google it. Take your time.

You could verify by removing stat cover and stat and running the motor briefly to see if any water pours out of the passage. On muffs of course to avoid spraying salt water all over the engine.

Just changed PRV and same deal. Tried to pull head 3 yrs ago and a bolt snapped. Had a vice grip on it.

Right no water even with tstat cover off.

Try muriatic acid in that t stat port first before you turn this into a major project. Has worked for me on an old outboard

as muratic acid EATS aluminium I probably would not use it for that.
we used it to clean the piston debris from the chrome bores on the old V mercs.

when running do you see any water pouring from the tiller area???

You mean front lower cowl area? Or midsection?

Also, if I were to block pee hole would that push more water up into the head?

you need to find out if the pump is pumping as it should,
and if it is, where the water is going if it is not going into the motor as it should.

I am sure Rod meant anywhere in the front , but I have been wrong before
