  • 4 stroke Internal anode insanity - F75 and up

    Oldmako commented in another thread
"in looking at your pics I am fairly certain that I received incorrect anodes. Mine have a different taper which makes the gasket issue even more important. "

So I took the occasion to research these things, as best I could, from the Yamahaoutboards.com and boats.net sites

They seem to have begun on the 1999 F80/F100
    (were those Yamaha's first 4-strokes?)
with part 67F-11325-00-00 (which oddly, is still available)

    That was used through 2003, on the F75, F80, F90, F100, F115, F150, F200, F225

For 2004 the part changed - to 68V-11325-00-00
This part is no longer available - and I was unable to find a photo of it.

For 2005 the part changed again - to 68V-11325-01-00

In April 2006, the part changed again - to 68V-11325-02-00

In April 2009, it changed again - to 67F-11325-01-00

This last part has since been used on F75,F90,F115,F150,F200,F225,F300,F350
and- at least on the 3.3 ltr F225 - was the current part up through 2016.

The same "grommet" - 67F-11328-00-00 - has been used on all F engines >75hp - regardless of the different "anodes" used.

    why the changes?
what's the difference besides the obvious shape?
is there any difference in the alloy used?

I've been using the 68V-11325-01-00, because that is listed for my F225TXRD

but I wonder that the 67F-11325-01-00 may be "better" at protecting the engine
(why else would they make the change?)

and I sure like the price difference

Taxes must be completed. Someone has some spare time on their hands.

Which reminds me, are you up for doing a test?

sure! the weather forecast is terrible - howling wind until after next weekend -
so the boat is up on the dock.

what do you have in mind?

You running your motor with my O2 meter and EGT meter installed to see what there is to be seen. In the way of air/fuel ratios at varying speeds and any differences in EGT values with 87 and 93 octane gasoline.

Better send him some cash too. No way Fairdeal is going to buy 93 octane!

I heard he is getting a big refund check. Both fed and state. How he manages the latter in Florida is his business only. What goes on there stays there.

Fairdeal, your first and second posts are EXACTLY what I ran up against.

The Yamaha parts department brought out the square one's, which didn't match mine.

I bought the $20.00 round ones which were the same as what came out of my engine...

                    Yes, the F150 paralleled the F225;

in the first 7 years of F150 production, Yamaha used 4 anode part numbers

the F225, starting 2 years earlier, used 5 anode part numbers in 9 years

                      good fun.

                      I could spring for some hi-test for the sake of Science;
still have a 6 gallon portable tank from the Whaler, I could plumb the F225 into that.

I'm probably up for that, Boscoe. Lets work up a test protocol.
