A while back Rodbolt had mentioned he use XD-100 in his E-tech and 9.9. Just wondering? I always use Yamalube 2M but now am concerned after it appeared a little clumpy after the cold winter sitting in the shed. The quart bottle was about half full-cap was on tight. Any thoughts?

Rodbolt has an Etec? The Yamaha stomper?
Heresy. I can't believe it.
According to Evinrude the Etec exceeds Yamaha in all aspects except for Bold New Graphics. BNG.
Thought he owned an F150.
If he has a two stroke I wonder what oil he uses? Most in the know use anything but Yamalube.

I wouldn't think / never heard of oil "clumping up" from sitting.
If ANY doubt, I'd simply buy another quart.
IMO, it really isn't worth potentially damaging your engine to save $5.00..
Maybe RB re-powered when we weren't looking...Scott

there are a lot of reasons for motors to die and not restart.
just because you had them die and fail to restart and did not find what was wrong with them is your fault.
many multi motor rigs can have many different problems.
mainly with fuel that will cause problems with multiple motorsLast edited by 99yam40; 04-13-2017, 07:28 PM.

I still have the 175 E-tec.
trying to sell it, going cheap.
I still have the 9.9.
I still have the F150.
all are for sale.
may take a trade for a nice 1895 Winchester chambered in 7.62x54 or .303.
yep the oil can get clumpy with age.
it is the anti-wear solids.
the xd100 seems not to clump.
dunno how it would work in the precision blend.
works well for my use.

I bought the E-tec new in November of 07.
popped a powerhead in 08.
was replaced with a fully dressed 08 powerhead.
may have run it 10 hours since.
I have not done any service, the hull has not been registered since about 2011.
I just start it on a remote tank every few months.

Stuff happens to all things mechanical sometimes.
I have heard plenty of others saying they had problems with just about every brand of outboard.
lots of HPDIs die early( but I think it may be a fault of the fuel/owner), and dry exhaust corrosion happens do to no fault of the owner from I have come to believe.
You say you had 5 of the e tecs and bash them for what problems others had.
I do not take sides in this, just saying all mechanical devices have problems. stop bashing

I had a 1997 Evinrude V6, 150 when I bought my bought new. Besides carb cleaningsm(when ethonol came into play), I changed the WP once in TEN years, NOTHING ELSE, NOTHING...
Very dependable engine and MUCH less maintenance than the Yamaha. Much louder and 3x less the mileage thou.
Had I known about RF and K100, I'd still have that engine.
