  • 2006 HPDI 250 Cold Start Issue

I'm trying to trace down my cold start issue when it was 36 degrees. It would not start for about 10 minutes then finally started. Also the first start of the day it does not like to idle very well.

I tested the crankshaft position sensor output peak voltage and it was 2.5v when cranking and at 1500 rpm I have 10 volts. The book says I should be at 1.5v cranking and 8v at 1500 rpm. It does not give a range that is considered "OK". Could this be my cold start issue? Do I need a new crankshaft position sensor? What problems does a bad crankshaft position sensor normally cause?

The crankshaft position sensor resistance was within specs as well as the air gap.

When I tested the TPS it was at .65v and I adjusted it to .60v. Book says for it to be between .58-.62v. Could this small issue have caused the problem? I have not had cold enough weather to try and recreate the issue.

Thanks and sorry for the long post.

for a cold start issue the CPS would be about the last thing I looked at.
you can toss the CPS in the creek and the motor would run.
