    My tachometer in op on a 250 ox66 2002. Any test procedure to go by and wiring at the engine color and where? Thanks Den

    First place to check is the wires on back of tachometer....also check fuse in line to tachometer. There's also a 3 or 4 position slot head screw on back that adjusts the tach for the motor...move the screw back and forth a few times to sometimes clean the contacts on inside to restore function....

      What brand and model of tachometer?

      Does it not power up or is it not displaying RPM.

      Wires to the tachometer come from the key switch (yellow and black) and from the engine (green).

      Yellow = 12 volts
      Black = ground
      Green = tachometer signal

      Green comes from a device on the motor called the CDI. It goes to a ten pin connector where it connects to the ten pin harness in the boat. The ten pin harness in the boat goes to the dash and then on to the tachometer via a mini-harness that is fused. Maybe. If the boat has Yamaha equipment installed.

        And sometimes tachometers just die and need replacement....but the damp marine atmosphere can play havoc with electrical connections, so check them first...
