Got a new powerhead from Yamaha to replace my corroded 2002 F225 block. We're almost done with the installation and was looking for some tips on how to proceed with the motor break-in (rpm's to run, oil change and viscosity, etc.) Thanks in advance.

I don't know if it the same but here's what's written in the manual for my '16 F150:
Run the engine under load (in gear with a propeller installed) for 10 hours as follows.
1. First hour:
· Run the engine at 2000 r/min or at approximately half throttle.
2. Second hour:
· Run the engine at 3000 r/min or at approximately three-quarter throttle.
3. Remaining eight hours:
· Run the engine at any speed.
. Go to max throttle a few times to see what your RPMs on that particular prop
· However, avoid operating at full throttle for more than 5 minutes at a time.
4. After the first 10 hours:
· Operate the engine normally.

Make sure the power head you bought is registered with Yamaha if they need that to happen to have the Yamaha warranty.
I believe I have heard that buying a Yamaha motor from someone besides a Yamaha dealer may not get registered. I have no idea about power heads, but figured it may be the sameLast edited by 99yam40; 03-30-2017, 08:11 PM.
