  • Yamaha 225 new powerhead break-in

Got a new powerhead from Yamaha to replace my corroded 2002 F225 block. We're almost done with the installation and was looking for some tips on how to proceed with the motor break-in (rpm's to run, oil change and viscosity, etc.) Thanks in advance.

Where did you get the power head?
If they are giving a warranty, I would think they would give you the info so you could follow it to be able to keep in side the warranty.

I don't know if it the same but here's what's written in the manual for my '16 F150:

Run the engine under load (in gear with a propeller installed) for 10 hours as follows.

      1. First hour:

      · Run the engine at 2000 r/min or at approximately half throttle.

      2. Second hour:

      · Run the engine at 3000 r/min or at approximately three-quarter throttle.

      3. Remaining eight hours:

      · Run the engine at any speed.
. Go to max throttle a few times to see what your RPMs on that particular prop
      · However, avoid operating at full throttle for more than 5 minutes at a time.

      4. After the first 10 hours:

      · Operate the engine normally.

Warranty is with Yamaha thru authorized dealers, not the seller.

Thanks, found something very similar while Google searching, best contact my local Yamaha dealer and check what they recommend.

Yep they are the ones that will have to get the OK for warranty work.
Make sure the power head you bought is registered with Yamaha if they need that to happen to have the Yamaha warranty.

I believe I have heard that buying a Yamaha motor from someone besides a Yamaha dealer may not get registered. I have no idea about power heads, but figured it may be the same
