~2005 multifunction tach wiring

2005 and later F model engine to a -83-00 tachometer goes like this.

Boscoe was way ahead of me there.

But looking at that graphic I get to the last panel and derail into the weeds...

so that one-foot adapter - and the Tach it mates with -

is an analogous, but different, variant of the bulleted pink (trim) wire on my tach?

The fourth wire does have a function. But for some reason it is a duplicate of one of the other three wire. Therefore, not used by the tachometer.

Nope. The bulleted wire on the jumper harness is gray/grey.

I remember, when I was tracing all the ECU pins, I got a "double hit" on one of those wires

but my (copyright 2003) manual has this:



of course, my manual is pre-Command Link - so many of those ECU pin colors changed, also

It came from a post 2005 service manual.

Your SM is pre 2005. Even though Yamaha says it covers post 2005 year motors. Which it does. In some places. In others, not so much.

Just like Yamaha does not show diodes in some wiring diagrams, they don't show the one p/b wire being connected to another p/b wire. Keeps mechanics trying to track down an electrical problem on their toes. Gives them a challenge.

Finally got back to my motor and the harness situation after I received my adapter harness as suggested on the diagram. The one connector on the engine only has 2 leads where 2 and 6 are on the diagram and there is not another lead where 5 is on your diagram. The motor model is a F225TXRC and the wire colors on the motor connector are either solid white and a white with black stripe or another light color such as faded pink or orange. I looked at the two wires from different angles to determine their color and I keep coming back to a dirty white. I guess I'll open up that six pack now.

The diagram above is not for an F225TXRC. It is for an F225TXRD and later motor.

Do you have any idea where I can find a diagram for a TXRC? Maybe we have been missing the second connector on the TXRC motor, but two of us have spent considerable time looking. Going tol have to break open another six pak.

the shoe from the schematic in post #21 is from the F225 service manual copyright 2003 -
one would think that would be close to what was done in 2004

That is interesting. The female connector on our F225TXRC only has two leads into it and the wire colors do not match the Trim/Oil harness at all. Maybe we just have not found the right connector. The one I spoke of is white just like the harness. Going back over there tomorrow and give it a good going over. We are waiting on a high pressure pump to come in before we mount the motor.
