hour meter discrepancy on new motor

I just got a brand new 2017 Yamaha F115LB, but kept my original controls, gauges, etc from my 1999 Yamaha F100.

However, the hour meter on my multifunctional tachometer still displays the hours from my old engine (plus the hours from my new one, thus 799+1=800).

I thought that the motor's ECM determined hours, and not the meter itself.

There's no way that the new motor can have 800 hours on it, but should I be worried? Can the dealer reset the ECM hours somehow, or does this sound like a gauge issue?

Any thoughts are appreciated. Just trying to get some independent input before approaching the dealer about this.

the dealer will be happy to sell you a new tach -

either another "multifunction" - like you have -which stores running hours internally - (and can not be reset)

or a "Command Link" tach which "reads" and displays the hours stored in your engine ECU

In your old motor engine hours were not stored within the motor.

With the new motor engine hours are stored within the motor.

The new motor needs a way to tell a tachometer how many hours are in the motor. It needs a new tachometer. Of a certain type.

Dealers love to sell them tachometers.

Yamaha loves to sell them tachometers to dealers.
