Last year I purchased a 2005 F225. Trim on the Yamaha gauge blinks all the time, never changes as I adjust the trim angle. The sender is still in one piece, not broken like on my last Yamaha. Can't find any specs or how to check the sender in the manual. Any info would be greatly appreciated!

I'd check the plug connection first.
Then un-plug or then hot wire the wires together to see if the gauge changes...
If it changes, you know the switch is bad..Scott

Finally got a chance to check it today. Sensor was within spec all the way up but read 7 in the down position. I would think 7 is close enough but I'm not sure. Sill blinking on the Gauge. All the connections are clean and tight. Must have a gremlin somewhere. Although I don't need the trim indicator, I can't stand when something doesn't work. Going to keep at it. Any suggestions?

7 ohms could just be the difference in your meter.
Just a wild thought... you said the display is "blinking". Does that mean it not's getting ANY signal? Did you check the back of the gauge, too? Did you remove and clean the connections, or just physically check?
Maybe you could just do a quick run of new wires (over the transom) from switch to the gauge to see if that changes anything? Or ohm the wires. Double check me on all of this, though - I'm just typing as I'm thinking and may not be thinking it through.2000 Yamaha OX66 250HP SX250TXRY 61AX103847T

All the 2005 have the exhaust stack issue and yes this engine had it. Cost 2500 bucks the have repaired here in NJ. Fortunately the previous owner had the work done.. The marina had the boat for over 6 months so he got pissed off, had them remove the engine and he went out and purchased the new Evinrude G2. When they finally finished the work he put it up for sale and the rest is history. So far so good.

Given that we say that current flows from (+) to ground:
its interesting that we don't have another word than "input" for what's going on there.
Same with fuel gauges; in both cases we use the word "sender" for the measuring device.
But its the gauge that is actually "outputting" TO the trim position "sensor"(?)
which then allows that gauge "output" to flow to ground.
As the trim position changes, the changing resistance of the "sensor" allows more - or less - "output" from the gauge
which the gauge correspondingly indicates. (Inversely, in the case of trim)

Well, if one subscribes to the theory of electron flow (negative to positive) then electrons will be flowing from the block, to the sender/sensor/variable resistor, then on to the gauge. The gauge will measure those electrons and provide an output to the display in the form of vertical bars.
So, using one current flow methodology the gauge is getting its input from that doohicky thingamabob octoflugaron on the motor. Or is it an engine?
Isn't this fun? Keep thinking.

Just for grins, connect the trim sender/sensor/variable resistor output lead from the tachometer to a good ground. The bars will stop flashing and then go out one by one until only the bottom bar is flashing.
Is it correct to say that LCD crystals "go out" when they disappear and are not visible? Or should I say "not being displayed"? Is that something we can debate?
