Question about jets on a 1988 Yamaha 30hp outboard

Very odd... Which carb is this, just one or on all three?

Does it appear that rubber "plug" was drilled out? The holes look drilled/rough...

You will be suprized at what some people will do to things when they have no idea what they are doing.
Drilling out jets thinking they are going to get more HP is one of them.

My thoughts are someone modified this thing.

but if the parts beak down does not show those jets in the original carbs, then they either drilled, tapped, and installed them or it is a different carb from original

Well, I posted the carb link above. I don't see those jets at ALL.

I doubt ANYONE would tap / thread the carb and screw jets in it. Open the jets, yes.

Looking into the other carb may reveal something.

All three carburetors are shown as using the plug.

The plug appears to be solid, which agrees with rodnut.

I suspect someone, some backyardigan, has screwed the pooch with respect to that carburetor. What do the other two look like with the plate removed?

I would buy the specific Yamaha plugs, as painful as it will be, and put the carburetor back into its production configuration.

Why was the carburetor removed and disassembled in the first place?

Here is another guess as to maybe, possibly, likely, as it should be.

are the holes actually threaded?
I have never seen jets under the rubber plugs.
these are not back draft style carbs so no jets would be needed.
the pilot fuel and main jets are in the fuel bowl area.

that little plate looks like it has a hole in it on the parts breakdown.

might be for letting air in thru it

I worked all weekend.

All three are identical. These carbs are OEM and never changed. The boston and original motor were never modified according to the original owner.

The M does flow down to the main so I guess I will put the larger of the two in that hole. Very odd indeed.
