  • Help - can't identify age or model - 2stroke, v6, 200hp

Is there a place to look for numbers or tricks to identifying model etc when the labels on transom mounting brackets are gone. I have 200 hp V6 2-stroke in my shop I'm told has been to the bottom and back (after looking a little into the engine I doubt this) and definitely has one exploded piston and some corrosion in all cylinders.

I haven't found any identifying numbers yet.
    Any ideas????

Look on the block in the general vicinity of the starter motor for a black and white decal with some number on it. What are the numbers?

Look at the starter motor for a data plate. What do you see?

Look at the carburetors for some casting marks. What do you see?

Look at the rectifier/regulator and the CDI for any markings. What do you see?

Is this a 20" motor or a 25" motor? What does the trim and tilt system look like? What markings do you see on it?

I'll be looking other places mentioned tomorrow but for now
Numbers cast in the block in different locations are:
      104573
      and
      64E
      00
      and
      6R500
      6R300

      numbers found under power-head
      6E 50
      Y-3

Numbers printed inside the top of the engine cover
      091110-01

number on white square label that looks machine readable.
      2G51???291 (centre numbers unreadable)

number cast in top of pistons
      64D02

      More tomorrow

Pistons may be a clue. A 64D prefix piston was used on several different Yamaha V6 models.

        64D-11631-00-90
        64D-11631-00-90 YAMAHA PISTON (STD)

        64D11631-01-90
        64D-11631-01-90 YAMAHA PISTON (STD)

        64D-11631-02-90
        64D-11631-02-90 YAMAHA PISTON (STD)

Does the motor have carburetors or fuel injection?

OK here's a little more info
The motor has carburetors and each carb has a quite a few numbers along the base.
          Carb 1
          64E02 621400 C02 P 0X06
          Carb 2
          64E02 621400 C12 P 0X07
          Carb 3
          64E02 621400 C22 P 0X12

These are the numbers on the Starter ID plate
          6N7-81800-10
          S114-66013 12V
          OXN

          The starter is a Hitachi

Starter is used on these models

              6N7-81800-10-00 YAMAHA STARTING MOTOR ASSY

A 64E-14301-00-00 is used on these models

              64E-14301-00-00 YAMAHA CARBURETOR ASSY 1

A 64E-14302-00-00 is used on these models

              64E-14302-00-00 YAMAHA CARBURETOR ASSY 2

A 64E-14303-00-00 is used on these models

              64E-14303-00-00 YAMAHA CARBURETOR ASSY 3

Now you get to decide amongst all of the models that use what is believed to be your carburetors, starter motor, etc., what is the common model that has 200 HP.

What is the end objective by the way? Other than to simply know what model motor you have?

The end objective is to rebuild the engine with new pistons and rings and possibly rods. It suffered a substantial explosion in the crankcase that blew out one piston completely and damaged two others. The rods are questionable as I am not sure how much discolouration is normal. A full set of engine gaskets and seals will also be needed.

did this explosion destroy the block also?

                    maybe the pistons just melted

One piston with a big hole in the middle that looks like it was made from pressure underneath it
two other pistons with broken top lips and sloppy in the bore
one other that is also sloppy in the bore.

The block, bore and heads all appear to be in serviceable condition with a little cosmetic damage in one combustion chamber of the head, yes the one with the exploded piston.

Pieces of piston spread around in both the reed vale assembly and the crankcase.

Well going through all those parts applications my best guess at present would be a 1999 SX 200 but it doesn't match 100%

I do wonder why Yamaha did not stamp a serial number into the block. There must be a some reason.

only time I have seen holes in pistons was when the pistons got too hot.

make sure the carbs are good and clean along with the cooling passages once you repair the motor. do not want it to have the same problem again
