While looking up a Suzuki thermostat I noticed that Suzuki uses a separate bolt on housing into which the thermostat resides. If and when the thermostat causes corrosion to the housing then a $34 part can be replaced. Or maybe the housing is plastic and won't corrode. Quite a bit different from having to replace a multi-thousand dollar block.
Different design philosophy. Yamaha can learn from Suzuki. And Suzuki can learn from Yamaha. I suspect that each are too proud to learn from the other.
