2005 F90, Tilt and Trim Switch (On Motor)

Went to hook up my boat yesterday and when I hit the on motor tilt and trim got a slight buzz and then nothing. The tilt and trim on the control works fine. The switch on the motor feels like a spring broke, no tension feels disconnected. I can get a new switch at my Yamaha dealers today. Just wondering if there is anything special or difficult about replacing the bad one. Any comments would help, I just don't want to screw anything up. Thank you in advance.

The switch is plug and play into the engine wire harness.

Disconnect the old switch at the coupler.

Remove two bolts that attach the clamp bracket to the bottom cowl. Then remove the bracket. Then remove the old switch.

Remove the gasket from the old switch and mount it onto the new switch.

Install the new switch, the bracket and the bolts. Reconnect the coupler.

Job done.

it is never a bad idea to disconnect the battery when playing with electrical connections

Nope...Not for that..

think about it, that switch has 12+ on it all of the time so you can tilt the motor without turning on the key or anything else.

if you happen to short the + wire to ground you will let the magic smoke out of something.

turning the battery switch to off or disconnecting the negative battery cable is a smart thing to do to protect from something going wrong even by accident
