I have heard of them not having them and have heard of a single motor being counter. guess they got a good buy on it
lots of things we do not know about on this thread, like what kind of prop/hub it has
I didn't bring it up as I thought it was a given...

I do like the idea (in the link posted), about simply marking the prop AND the splined washer. Any movement and it's confirmed....

Motors are counter-rotating, the props are Yamaha-branded that came with the boat new. The explanation of a spun prop hub seems bang-on, but what is strange to me is that the motors (and props) have only 95 hours on them. They are, however, 10 years old. Long story of why such little use for another time.

In a lifetime of operating outboard motors I've never experienced this problem before.

I've used General Propellor in Bradenton FL (a little north of where this boat is now). I guess I will take the prop there for repair.

I spun an old aluminum prop literally decades ago, (same as yours).

My engine and prop (SS but not Yamaha brand) is 06 vintage, in service 10 years. Original hub with currently 210 hours AND run aground (sand and oysters) fairly often...

The prop shop can take care of you..

Ask for the old one back and why yours let loose. I'd be curious to hear his explanation (probably the same here)

It would help if you would post the motor model #s when you start a thread.

only counter rotating 2 stroke I see listed is a LZ150 and I would not think you would have both motors being LZs.

Mark and check to make sure one is spun

You can put a counter rotating [LH] gear case on
            most v4 and 46 engines.

There's not always a rationale reason to why something fails and other things don't. Sometimes "stuff happens". And sometimes it's better to use things than let them sit. Like trailer tires - almost no one wears out the tread, but they do dry rot and crack over time. Someone could say "I only have 500 miles on my trailer tires and they're already going bad". But what they didn't say was that the tires are many years old.

Don't sweat it. Check it out (or get it checked), fix it and get back to boatin'!
