There are usually multiple water pump kit options. If you're going to replace all of the water pump components, including the pump housing, wave washer, collar, etc...the parts # is: 61A-W0078-A3-00COMP

Here is a distributor webpage for this kit:
    COMPLETE WATER PUMP REPAIR KIT

The parts # is the same as the standard kit with the addition of COMP after the last two digits. If you rather use boats.net as the distributor, call and ask if they have this complete kit. They probably do. If not, use the other option above.

I think it was the metal retainer. The white plastic ring the OP has, has seen better days...
Yeah I recall bolt saying the same. He'll make an effort to remove that metal retainer sleeve, but if it doesn't budge he'll just split it. The replacement cost of the sleeve is much less expensive then his labor charge.

I realized after I posted that the rubber washer was just a cover and not an actual seal. Thanks for the replies everyone.

Robert, the thermostat is getting replaced also. I have another post where this all started with a hose that cools the fuel and goes out of the tell tale that fouled. I then checked the thermostat and found it rusted open along with all kinds of rust where it goes in at. That's how I found out the previous owner did nothing to take care of this motor...or the boat in general for that matter.

Those dowel pins may be rusted in place. If you wish to remove and replace, heat with a torch briefly. They will pop right out with pliers.

As I recall, those pins are included in the kit...

That FULL kit must be something new as the housing itself always had to be purchased separately.

Great kit, especially for the OP's situation...

Most other folks won't need the new housing, etc..

I unfortunately already bought the regular kit and now I have to purchase the other parts separately.

That housing should last the life of the boat. Take care of it and you will only have to buy this one. Overheating kills them. I also noticed a few chips on mine where the previous owner tried to pry it up and off.

When you removed the black cover to reveal the seals, did you notice any white emulsified oil on the top seal? Hopefully not....

Checked the seals pstephens46 and they looked good, no white anything on top.

This photo was posted in this thread. It reminded me of the white crusty stuff I discovered all over the damper seal guide and damper seal when I last replaced my water pump. The condition of both looked similar to the seal pictured above in red circle. I scraped as much as I could off before installing the pumps base plate.

Even though you were asking about different seals, it was your description that caught my attention. Reading your words above has me thinking...is that what the white crusty stuff is on the damper seal and damper guide, circled in red. Emulsified oil? And if it is emulsified oil, what is this telling me?

I can vaguely recall reading that this damper seal will get mucked up, that is normal. Just clean it off before reinstallation of base plate. But I could be recalling this wrong.

Basically I was referring to gear oil mixed with water. Noticeable on top of seals that are failing. The white crusty deposits I would guess are a mixture of dried minerals, salt and aluminum oxide.

I am not sure of the purpose of that damper seal. I would guess to prevent exhaust gases/heat from interfering with the water pump.

that damper plate shou;ld be rempoved, the holder removed/replaced and correctly reassembled.
quite often with that much corrosion it tends to hold the rear of the wear plate up and causes an air leak which causes low speed overheats.

I think that was Fairdeal's pic of the damper seal..not the OP

Yeah mine is still torn apart while I wait to get parts. I need to get my boat budget bigger.

I pulled the rubber damper out and scraped all the powdery stuff. Cleaned and reused the original parts.

For some reason I went out and started poking around at the water pump housing cover and I "think" this grey stuff is some sort of sealant / adhesive someone put on it, for what reason I have no idea.
