Fading Gauges Yam F-90

Both gauges are still visible but are fading.. The repair shop said the only thing is to replace them. Is this true ? The first thing I did when I bought this boat in 2005 is have a custom cover made and thought it would save me from this kind of damage..

I have read that the LCD screens can be replaced, but it is not something people will normally take on. Kind of like replacing the screen on smart phones.

I am guessing this is just the LCD screen fading and not the outer lens just being sun damaged like the plastic head lamps needing to be restored
