  • 2006 70hp yamaha trim tab

Got a new trim tab for my Yamaha 70hp motor. Looks like I will need to notch the new one so the prop clears the trim tab. Is this typical for trim tabs?
The propeller clears the old trim at the notch by about 1/4".
Also does it look like the trim tab should be replaced.

    Thanks,
    G

That does not look like the correct trim tab to me.

What part number did you get?

Yamaha's prop diameters for 70tTLR and F70LA (what model do you have?) are between 12 5/8" and 14" (measure from the center of the prop shaft to the edge of one of the prop blades and multiply by 2 for the diameter of the prop you have). However, Yamaha offers a "High Performance Trim Tab" for the 70TLR. Whether that will give you the clearance or performance you need or not, I do not know. You'll have to do a bit more investigation and give us the details for a good answer to your problem.

Here's a link for the trim tab I mention.

              The prop should be ok.
A 70TLR calls for a 688-45371-02-00 trim tab. Not the 67F-45371-00-00 you have purchased.

              See this link:

If its on a pontoon boat they had to cut it
out to spin. Seen it a lot.

What is different about a pontoon boat?

Prop has alot more cup and bigger blade surface. T70
was made for pontoon. Sold alot of them.

                      I ordered part# 688-45371-02-00 TAB-TRIM from Boats.net.
                      They sent me 67F-45371-00.
Don't know if there is a difference between these parts.

I would say there is a difference.
I would call them to see what they say about sending you something different from what you ordered

                          I talked to them a boats.net. They said part# 67F-45371-00 superseded part# 688-45371-02-00, thus it is better.
Looks like notching the trim tab might be the best option here.

did you tell them that the prop would not clear the tab?

Yes and the fellow didn't know about notching the tab. Looks like someone notched the old tab.
