  • Need help asap. F250 fuel/vst issues

2011 f250 bought a boat with this motor. Fuel has been sitting for a while before I bought it. Fuel had a lot of water in it so I decided to drain tank and change filters. I ran motor dry to burn old fuel. Not sure that was a smart idea. Changed fuel filter in front of motor and in the vst. Also a new 10 micron. Now it seems like I can not prime the vst. The fuel pump turns on when key is in on position but it keeps running. Motor would only run for a half second before dying unless I step on the primer ball and force gas in then it will run for 5-10 seconds. I am thinking there is a clog somewhere before fuel pump. Should I of filled vst before putting it back together? Oh yeah, I am also on vacation in the Keys so any advice on the fly would be greatly appreciated.

Another thing. Vst was very dirty at the bottom. The back of the vst there was a rectangle plate with 3 Phillips screws holding it. I removed the plate and it was slap full of carbon/dirt? Passage ways were totally clogged.

use the primer bulb to fill the filters and VST before turning on the key.

but if tank was full of bad gas and water, you need to drain and clean tank and flush out the whole system and change all filters and clean screens even in the injectors

I did drain the vst tank. Are there only 2 filters on this motor?

99Yam, (or anyone else) are the injector filters INSIDE the injectors? I don't see them anywhere else..

          Guess I found them: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IJyhavmmvHw

However, I didn't see the filters available on the parts fisch..??? Are they NOT available W/O the injectors?

I believe the injector filters are just screens that can be popped out to clean and reuse.

Injector screens and the "f-shaped" filter too. Attached to fuel lines near VST.

OP says its a 2011 - I believe by then the "F filter" is incorporated into the VST housing.

Yeah. Little out of my league on this one.
Looking at a F250txr diagram. It also shows an inline "t-shape" filter too. Who knows? Lots of places to clog.

that pump you hear running continuously at key on engine off is not a pump.

it is the electronic throttle body.
clean the VST,remove and spray out the injectors. the injector screens are not avalible from Yamaha and removal typically destroys them.

test BOTH pumps with a 12v battery and a set of jumper leads.

If you had water and bad fuel in VST and filters you have water and bad fuel in the main fuel tank that needs to be removed, otherwise it will hit your just cleaned system.

Have you tried pumping primer bulb to get fuel thru the filters and filling the VST?

Running the electric pumps without fuel in them to pump ,lubricate, and cool the pumps/motors you can hurt them

Water when the motor is running.

Boscoe, are you sure? Is there is a heat exchanger (fuel cooler) built into this VST? Please look at the diagram below, part # 14 and confirm.
                            Thanks!

When the op mentioned "back of the vst there was a rectangle plate with 3 Phillips screws holding it", I only saw something that matched his description on a F250UCA parts diagram, not any of the other model #'s diagrams referenced by others on this thread.

So petersparker, what exactly is your complete model #? Exact serial # might help as well.

Sure would hate to have parts misinformation posted by members assuming a certain model #?

I'm looking at the Yamaha site for diagrams, not Boats.net. Especially more helpful in looking up parts for motors 2006 and newer!
