Propshaft seals replacement

What did you use to seat your new propshaft seals?

A properly sized and cut square piece of schedule 40 PVC should work.

You want it SUPER close to the outside edge to keep from damaging the seal..

(I've never done prop seals but for other applications as such, yes)

Don't know Fairdeals method. I can't comment on it, but I'd trust what he has to say.

The PVC is way larger than the prop shaft so I don't see any issues with that. BUT it MUST BE square cut so the seal goes in straight

OK, from what I see, just use the correct Yamaha part seal installer.

I did read that thread awhile ago, I forgot about the oil passages.

I gather most engines have them, a simple inspection once the seals are out would tell the tale. Measuring depth BEFORE yanking the old would be a good idea, can't go wrong (if factory installed).

To keep from seating them TOO DEEP and if using PVC, I'd cut a PVC "connector" down. Then glue (it'd look like a ring now) it at the appropriate depth to prevent from installing the seals too deep...

It's your profession and you'l use it all the time doing it correctly, quickly, no guessing and exactly to spec.

For the guy working out of his garage, investing in that tool may not be worth it.

If I had a good enough excuse, I would buy every tool that Marine Tech makes. Beautiful stuff. But sometimes we have to improvise on tools that might only get used once every five years
