Reed valve installation

I'm replacing the reed valve assembly on a small Yamaha motor. Yamaha doesn't provide a gasket between the intake manifold and the reed valve assembly (plastic body). Should I use any kind of sealant there? There is a gasket between the reed valve assembly and the engine, but I'm not sure if any type of sealant should be put on the gasket (like gasket shellac). Any advice would be appreciated.

200 HP is small to some. 2.5 is small to others.

Is this even an outboard motor?
